CHLORPHENIRAMINE MALEATE+DEXTROMETHORPHAN HYDROBROMIDE+PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE syrup is a combination medication, indicated in the treatment of dry cough. They belong to the class of drugs called ‘cough and cold preparations’. Cough is a reactionary process of eliminating allergens, pollutants, and pathogens from the body. The dry cough is tickly and doesn’t produce any thick mucus.
The combination medicine comprises; Chlorpheniramine maleate (antihistamine), Phenylephrine hydrochloride (decongestant), and Dextromethorphan hydrobromide (cough suppressant). Chlorpheniramine maleate blocks the action of histamine, a substance that causes allergic reactions. Phenylephrine hydrochloride helps in shrinking the blood vessels located in the nasal passage reducing the stuffy nose. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide blocks the transmission of nerve signals from the cough center in the brain to the glands that produce cough. The synergetic effect of these drugs, therefore, provides relief from dry cough.
